PSN Name Change Functionality Finally Launches Today and Tomorrow

Sony has finally announced it will allow PlayStation 4 owners to change their User IDs - the name you go by when you're playing games online - starting later today.

Players can change their PSN ID via the PS4 or Sony's PlayStation website.

PS4 name change feature is launching soon with PlayStation fans soon able to change their PSN Online ID. If your game of choice is one of the titles with critical issues, Sony recommends you not change your username if you want to continue enjoying it.

There is no limit to how many times you can change your PSN ID, however, after the first change, each additional change will cost $9.99 USD/CAD or $4.99 USD/CAD for PlayStation Plus members. To revert to an old online ID costs nothing and can be done by contacting PlayStation support. As for the incompatible games, you can revert back to any of your previous IDs for free to get around issues or errors that may arise.

All PS4 users with non-child accounts can change their ID, either through the PS4 or a web browser.

At long last, Sony announced it will let you change your online ID on PSN beginning on Thursday. However, this isn't a guarantee, as not every title has been tested with the name change feature.

The list includes the games that will have some issues as well as those who will have even bigger issues.

As soon as PlayStation players load into Fortnite: Battle Royale, they will see their new ID above their name in the lobby. Again though, Sony says that this shouldn't be the case with most games. But, by and large, changing the nickname in PSN should not affect most of the games available. PS3 And PS Vita games are also incompatible with this feature.

This ensures that users can now change their PSN IDs, although that doesn't come without a few caveats. Currently, there are only 10 games on the list with known critical issues. However, during testing, there was one instance where it did not work with a game made after April 1, 2018.

The full supported games list can be found here.

You may lose progress within games, including game saved data, leaderboard data, and progress towards trophies.

The feature is a welcomed addition, despite the issues that it will present for numerous titles.
