Another storm is expected to move into the region Friday, but the path of the storm is uncertain, Sanders said.

The storm is shaping up to be the second rare bomb cyclone to hit the state in as many months.

Warm spring temperatures will give way to heavy snow, gale-force winds and life-threatening conditions across a swath of the central United States running from Colorado to Minnesota over the next two days, the National Weather Service said. Moderate to heavy snowfall is looking more likely over parts of the area, and a Winter Storm WATCH has been issued for parts of the area, shaded in blue in the map above.

Much of eastern Colorado is bracing for another round of wintry weather, which includes a blizzard warning for northeastern Colorado, north of the Palmer Divide, and a Winter Storm Warning for Teller County. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Mixed precipitation of rain, snow and sleet will be possible at times along and south of a line from New Ulm, the Twin Cities metro, to Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Brainerd had 15 inches of snow April 10, 2008; 6.3 inches of snow April 11, 2013; and 3.5 inches of snow April 12, 1983. Rain will turn to snow Wednesday.

Expect snow to start in the mountains on Wednesday morning, with dry conditions in the Denver area about noon.

#AccordingToAllTheExperts...a unsafe spring storm system will bring multiple weather hazards to the US today and tomorrow.

Early on Wednesday morning, thundersnow was reported in Pierre and surrounding parts of South Dakota, as well as southern Minnesota.

Some areas of western Minnesota and southeast South Dakota were expected to get up to 30 inches of wet, heavy snow, the NWS said. "Unsettled weather continues through the weekend as a couple more weaker systems drop in from the northwest, with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible from time to time".

Another extraordinary storm is expected to slam Nebraska this week, piling on misery and possibly more flooding, and maybe making its way into the record books. Road closures are possible, potentially including along stretches of Interstates 29, 80 and 90.

The Weather Service warns power outages and tree damage are likely due to ice and high winds.

The storm crept slowly across Idaho and Montana on Tuesday, dumping rain and snow and prompting blizzard warnings for Wednesday and Thursday in parts of Wyoming and Colorado. And after temperatures hit the mid-60s to mid-70s this past weekend, the drastic change will leave millions of Americans wishing spring weather would hurry up and stay.
