Justice Dept. probing development of Boeing jets

The Justice Department investigation is reportedly a criminal matter. The same aspect has been noted as a link to the investigations on the Lion Air crash roughly five months ago.

Jean-Paul Troadec, the former head of France's aviation accident investigation bureau, told CNN that he saw flaws in the system.

The Transportation Department's inspector general also is probing the approval of the 737 Max by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), The Wall Street Journal also reported.

A Boeing 737 MAX 8 plane operated by Ethiopian Airlines crashed shortly after taking off from Addis Ababa on March 10, killing all 157 people on board.

The 737, which first entered service in the late 1960s, is the aviation industry's best-selling model and Boeing's top earner.

Boeing shares fell 1.8 per cent to $372 at end of trading in NY on Monday.

The CEO of Boeing has announced that the United States aircraft maker will soon release a software update for its troubled 737 MAX jets.

The 737 MAX was certified as a variant of the 737 Next Generation, the plane it replaced, despite major differences in the engine and the MCAS, according to documents available on the FAA's website.
