'Witch hunt' is right, 50 percent of Americans now say

Trump has denied collusion and obstruction, calling the investigation a "witch-hunt".

Trump has been investigated for nearly two years, following suspicions that he or his team had improper ties to Moscow.

House Judiciary Committee member Louie Gohmert said Wednesday that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's final conclusion should be viewed as a "dossier", not a "report", questioning how the investigation has been conducted from the start.

"We have a separate and independent and important responsibility", Schiff has said.

Kent notes that there are questions that can be posed to Trump and the White House to call his bluff: "Will you commit in advance that he will not assert executive privilege to block the release?" That's because we've already learned of a tremendous amount of wrongdoing, misconduct and criminality by top aides due to the Mueller investigation and its spinoffs, and because multiple investigations will continue after the Mueller probe closes shop. His prosecutors revealed a sweeping criminal effort by Russians to interfere in the 2016 presidential election and showed that people connected to the Trump campaign were eager to exploit emails stolen from Democrats.

But what's most interesting about this survey is that the numbers aren't simply Republican-Democrat lines.

"If you want to let them see it, let them see it", Trump told reporters.

Trump's full response to reporters before boarding Marine One for OH was contradictory at times, with the president saying the public deserves to see the report while adding that it was up to Barr.

The president's campaign and pro-Trump outside groups will then likely amplify the message, while his advisers expect the conservative media, including Fox News, to act as an echo chamber.

But that aside, it's simply absurd to read much into Trump's stated desire for the report to be released.

Voters also split over whether they support the president's denial that no collusion occurred between his 2016 campaign and Russian Federation, with 43 percent saying they had "a lot" or "some" trust in Trump's claim, compared to 52 percent who reported "little or no trust". Likewise, House Democrats' intention to spend the next 20 months investigating the president's family and businesses appears to be at odds with the public mood.

The president's comments amounted to his clearest statement yet in favor of the report's release and come after he said in a tweet last week that there should not even be a Mueller report.
