Seventeen-year-old Will Connolly aka "Egg Boy" had threw the egg on Fraser Anning on Saturday after the politician triggered outrage by claiming the attacks at two mosques in which 50 people were killed were caused by Muslim immigration to the country.

Philadelphia's Ben Simmons is in his second active season after being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 National Basketball Association draft.

Will was slapped across the face by Mr Anning after the egging, before being pinned to the ground and placed in a headlock by supporters of the politician.

Will Connolly, who is now popularly known as "Egg Boy" for cracking an egg on the head of an Australian lawmaker, will donate money raised in his honor to the families and victims of the Christchurch mosque shooting.

"Teammate Jonah Bolden, who is also from Melbourne, got in on the action too, writing "#LEGENDEGGBOY" on his sneakers.

"I think he's an idiot", Simmons said of Trump in 2017. "That's how I personally feel". Simmons added his support for a boy who has been billed a hero by many for standing up to Anning's comments.

Will Connolly was thrust into the worldwide spotlight after filming himself egging the far-right politician, who was speaking at an event just a day after using the Christchurch terror attacks to condemn Muslim immigration.

A GoFundMe page was started online for "egg boy" which immediately crossed $40k funding for paying off his legal fees and also to buy "more eggs".

Former prime minister Kevin Rudd dubbed Anning a "racist and a fascist", and encouraged Australians to sign a petition calling for him to be booted out of parliament. "Within the bounds of Australian law, we request that he be pushed to resign from his position as Senator", the petition states, "and if appropriate, be investigated by law enforcement agencies for supporting right wing terrorism".
