One summer can change everything.

After nearly a year and a half away from our screens, the Netflix drama will return for its third season on July 4, and today, the streaming giant dropped an official trailer for the highly-awaited installment.

It's going to be on unusual summer of for the kids of Hawkins, Indiana.

Off to a cheery start, right?

The wait is over for a sneak peak into season 3 of Stranger Things!

"We're not kids anymore", says Mike (Finn Wolfhard) towards the beginning of the trailer.

Cary Elwes as the mayor and Jake Busey as a local reporter for The Hawkins Post will appear in new roles, alongside Maya Hawke who works in the Starcourt Mall's ice cream shop.

The new trailer also features glimpses of a menacing gunman, a huge, insect-like beast and several characters looking freaked out by something happening offscreen.

We also watch a scientist get zapped with a large bolt of electricity, Will examine a unusual mark on his arm and the kids slide full pelt down the middle of an escalator away from... something bad, presumably. "Play games for the rest of our lives?" Will asks in the clip, suggesting that there will be differences of opinion between the group as they move from pre-teens to full-on teenage-hood.

The gang of Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Will, Eleven and Max is back and so are Billy, Nancy, Jonathan and Steve. And in true Stranger Things fashion, there looks to be plenty of trippy sequences and pastel-hued lighting amidst some explosive fireworks and action shots. "I want you to feel like this can still be your home", as images of him bloodied at a carnival and a man wielding a gun flash before the viewers' eyes.
