Apple Just Casually Announced Two New iPads

According to the aforementioned Twitter post, Apple's iPad announcements can be considered "a real statement about how much it wants to focus its March 25th event on its news and video services".

Tucked under the shell of this device is Apple's latest A12 Bionic chip which delivers a 70 per cent boost in performance and twice the graphics capability.

"The new iPad Air keeps the same basic form factor of the 9.7" iPad, but with slimmed down side bezels to make room for a larger 10.5" display.

Just like the mini, the iPad Air has a Touch ID home button on the front, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, and it shares the same list of specs, A12 Bionic chip included. It features a Retina display with True Tone, and has a higher higher pixel density than all other iPads. This time, the Mini will have the same chip as the Air, along with support for the Apple Pencil stylus. The new iPad mini is heavier by a gram - 300.5gms vs 299gms - but that's a difference most people are likely never going to notice. Before this release, the last iPad Mini, the fourth-generation version, had been on shelves since 2015. The Mini starts at $399 with 64GB of storage (the same amount the iPad Air starts with) and goes up to $549 for 256GB of storage. "The Mini retains the 7.9" format, but the Air now clocks in at 10.5", which means that it poses a threat to the iPad Pro 10.5".

IPad Air and iPad mini are ideal for staying productive on the go with iOS, helping users get things done faster with features like Siri Shortcuts, photo search and Voice Memos. The theory at the time was that Apple was going to continue last year's sixth-generation iPad, and then perhaps release a 10.5-inch mid-range model somewhere between the entry-level iPad and the iPad Pro, which could include features like Face ID and improved screen technology. Both the tablets support Apple pencil.
