Cook County Sheriff's office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari told the outlet Kelly will be transferred to the county jail, where he will remain until he pays $161,000 in back child support that he owes.

In the bowels of the downtown courthouse, Kelly was taken out the back of the courtroom with his hands behind his back.

It was not immediately clear why he is returning to custody, although it follows a child support hearing Wednesday. A Cook County, Illinois judge said that Kelly must pay the $161,000 in full in order to be released.

"Why would you take your daughter - if I were going to take my daughter and she's 19 years old to a 49-year-old icon whatever, celebrity, R. Kelly concert, whoever it is, I'm not going to put her on the stage and leave her".

Kelly was arrested for a second time in recent weeks on Wednesday - this time for failure to pay child support - hours after lashing out in a television interview against charges that he had sexually assaulted teenage girls.

Kelly spent three nights in jail last month after being arrested on the criminal sex abuse charges.

"I have been buried alive, but I'm alive", he said, later adding that he needed someone to help him "not have a big heart". Kelly swore he "didn't do this stuff" and said he's "fighting for his life".

In 2002 he was criminally charged for allegedly filming himself having sex with a 14-year-old girl. When interviewer Gayle King asked whether the children want to have a relationship with him, Kelly replied, "I bet you they do".

Asked about their relationship with Kelly, Azriel Clary, 21, sobbed in a CBS television interview due to be aired on Thursday.

- R. Kelly's day began with a nationally televised broadcast in which he whispered, cried and ranted while pleading with viewers to believe him: He'd never had sex with anyone under 17 and never held anyone against her will.

Savage's lawyer on Wednesday also disputed Kelly's assertions that they had handed over or sold Jocelyn.

He has pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse.

An emotional R. Kelly says he's being "assassinated" and denies sexually abusing women and controlling their lives.

The parents of 23-year-old Savage said at a news conference on Wednesday they had not seen their daughter in person for two years.

"Use your common sense".

"I love 'em and it's nearly like ... they're my girlfriends".

"I don't need to".

Later in the week, the network will air an interview with Azriel and Joycelyn and a teaser clip saw the younger woman scream at Gayle as she defended Kelly.

Kelly was "happy" when he arrived for the hearing, not thinking he would be jailed, Johnson said.
