North Korea upgrading its capital's transit with new subway cars, streetcars

American officials have not provided any details regarding the conversation planned between the two world leaders, though they are expected to discuss ending North Korea's illegal nuclear program.

While Japan and the US - which guarantees the country's security under a 1960 treaty - both want North Korea to give up its weapons, their interests could diverge as talks progress.

The uncertainty is raising concerns both in and out of the administration that Trump, in his second attempt to reach a historic diplomatic breakthrough with Kim, will agree to a headline-grabbing peace declaration and offer other United States concessions without locking in significant commitments from Pyongyang.

Trump could view a nonbinding peace declaration for the 1950-53 Korean War as a signature diplomatic achievement, one he might grasp at even if it did not include ironclad requirements by North Korea to scale back its weapons programmes.

Some Korea experts praised Trump's unconventional approach, saying it has lowered tensions in the Korean Peninsula and raised hopes of a possible deal.
