Jussie Smollett Recalls Horrific Attack: ‘I Am Forever Changed’

"The vicious attack on actor Jussie Smollett was an attempted modern-day lynching", Mr.

Police officials initially told CBS Chicago that two suspects yelled homophobic slurs at Smollett before attacking him, pouring a chemical substance on him and then wrapping a rope around his neck.

Chicago police said they "cannot confirm any of those reports". Elgas reported that Smollett did not appear for a scheduled interview on Thursday.

Earlier Thursday, multiple outlets, including The Chicago Tribune, reported that police had confirmed that they detained two persons of interest at O'Hare International Airport for questioning about their potential involvement in the case Wednesday night.

In the interview with Robin Robert, the singer-actor spoke about his recollection of the incident and addressed the doubters who have been trying to poke holes in his story since it began.

"I'm p***ed off", Smollett said as he talked about the hurt he was feeling, not just from the attack itself but from the people doubting his claims.

"It's the attackers, but also the attacks", he said, adding of those who don't believe his story, "It's not necessarily that you don't believe that this is the truth, you don't even want to see the truth".

Smollett, who is black and openly gay, told the Chicago Police Department that he was attacked by two men on January 29 while walking home to his apartment. Chicago police had previously been critical of Mr. Smollett's cooperation with them on turning over his own phone records, saying that what he turned over did not meet the standards of a criminal investigation.

Police said they have not found surveillance video that shows the attack.

Jussie said to reporters that we, as people, have the ability to turn bad things into good things. "And then we started tussling", said Smollett.

Several reports indicated that it was the heavily-redacted phone records that tipped police off that something wasn't right.

I hope Jussie Smollett, with his celebrity, can get justice, but I also know that if he doesn't that would be the norm.

The 36-year-old actor said there is no doubt in his mind that the attack was a hate crime.

In a statement, Smollett's lawyer said the redactions were "intended to protect the privacy of personal contacts or high-profile individuals not relevant to the attack". "No, 1, I want them to find the people that did it, No. 2, I want them to stop being able to say 'alleged attack'".
