Winter storms in northern Arizona are ramping up and don't appear to be slowing down.

There is a slight chance of snow mixed with rain Saturday night and again Monday morning across parts of central and southeast Kansas. The rain could raise the risk of possible flooding and debris flows near recent burn areas. About 3-6 feet of snow is expected above the 5000' level. But the temperature will soar back up to above freezing by Thursday, when highs are expected to reach 4°C.

The greater Portland, Oregon, area saw snow overnight Monday and schools were closed in Portland, Vancouver, Washington, and other areas.

Farther east, a separate wave of precipitation from this storm will break out over the upper Midwest and Great Lakes.

The second round of ice arrives with freezing rain on Wednesday.

Snow is expected from the Dakotas into Minnesota, much of Wisconsin and northern MI. By Thursday morning, the majority of the area will be in the upper 30s with light rain showers. Along with cold temperatures, winds will be gusty, reducing visibility in spots and making it feel even colder.

A wintry mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow is on track to move in Tuesday afternoon.

Officials measured 20-40 mm of water in the existing snow pack last week, which is below normal for this time of year.

Despite two to 10 mm of rain over the weekend and more in the forecast in coming days, the UTRCA doesn't expect significant flooding, although there may be some river and stream spill over in low lying areas.

Parts of New England and upstate NY may also see a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain.
