Klay Thompson interested in joining Lakers if LA snags Anthony Davis

Now injured Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball is apparently at the top of the Pelicans list when it comes to things they'd want in an Anthony Davis-to-L.A. deal, according to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times. Irving is a factor because of what's known as the Rose Rule, which says National Basketball Association teams can not trade for more than one player who has signed an extension.

ESPN reported earlier this week that the Lakers were poised to make an aggressive play to acquire Davis from the Pelicans before next week's trade deadline.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com, Golden State All-Star Klay Thompson's "attention will be on the Lakers" in the offseason if Davis is there and if the Warriors don't offer him a max contract this summer.

If Davis is set on joining the Lakers in 2020 regardless of where he is traded to, other teams may be reluctant to give up quality assets in a trade for him. Johnson presented Demps with five different trade scenarios for Davis on Wednesday, Turner reports, and are waiting to hear back from Demps about which ones interest him the most. It is believed that a package of Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and Ivica Zubac are the starting point with Brandon Ingram potentially also being included in a deal.

Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times reports that Lakers team president Magic Johnson and Demps talked on the phone Tuesday about how to proceed in Davis trade talks. It also would severely hinder the leverage the Pelicans would have in the summer as it would take the Lakers off the board as a team others have to bid again.

To make this video even better, it would be great to the Sanchez hanging out on the sideline at Super Bowl LIII. The actor also made the odd statement that "the whole world is rooting against the Patriots - sorry".

Some have even speculated that Davis' preferred destination could be with the purple-and-gold franchise, though the superstar big man hasn't come out with a list of preferred destinations as of yet.

The implication is that a trade may not come before the February 7 deadline to make a deal this season, and more likely could come after the season, when 2019 draft slots are known and when the Boston Celtics are eligible to enter the fray.

However, Turner adds that the Lakers will not be interested in getting into a bidding war with Boston if they are forced to wait until the summer.

The Boston Celtics have also shown interest in Davis but, due to minutiae in the collective bargaining agreement, can not trade for him until this summer unless they want to trade All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving.
