Giuliani clarifies comments about Trump Tower Moscow project

Giuliani acknowledged that Trump might have talked to Cohen before his congressional testimony, but he said his client had never instructed Cohen to lie.

"It was Michael Cohen driving the project", he told CNN in a separate interview on its "State of the Union" show.

"So what if he talked to him about it?" he asked.

Giuliani said as far as he knew, Trump had not had discussions with Cohen where Trump "told him or counseled him to lie".

BuzzFeed reported that Trump directed Cohen to lie to Congress, and that special counsel Robert Mueller was aware.

"Buzzfeed's description of specific statements to the Special Counsel's Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen's Congressional testimony are not accurate", Peter Carr, a spokesperson for Mueller's office, said in a statement that came out hours after BuzzFeed's story was published.

U.S. President Donald Trump pursued a business deal to erect a tower bearing his name in Moscow throughout 2016, his attorney said on Sunday, raising new questions for congressional investigators looking into possible ties between the president and Russian Federation.

Trump then retweeted a couple of posts by Geraldo Rivera saying, "If the #SpecialCounsel had collusion don't you think we would have heard it by now?"

The second version of the story is the one Michael Cohen testified to Congress, which said that while there were some attempts to arrange a deal, they were abandoned by January 2016.

We'll try to sort through the changing stories about the Trump Organization's efforts to put together a deal to build a Trump Tower in Moscow while Trump was running for president, but here's what's most vital to understand: You don't have to believe the absolute worst version of this scandal, where every accusation reveals an actual crime, to admit that Trump was and is both deeply corrupt and utterly dishonest.

Turley disagreed with Guiliani's point of view Monday, and said that if Trump and Cohen did speak, it's "begging" for an allegation like what BuzzFeed has asserted.

"Through November 2016? Through November, right?"

Giuliani responded that Trump "answered those questions fully, and I think to the satisfaction of the special counsel".

Giuliani told the Daily News that John Dowd, a former attorney for Trump's Russian Federation legal team, had confirmed to him that Trump never spoke to Cohen about his congressional testimony. So anytime during that period they could've talked about it.

This was the second time within the past week that Giuliani has walked back comments from the previous day.

"According to the answer that he gave, it would have covered all the way up to - covered up to November, 2016". Cohen, unlike in the Southern of District of NY case against him, did not say that Trump "directed" him to commit a crime.
