The 23-year-old was most recently waived by the Cavs earlier this week after signing a non-guaranteed 2-year, $6 million deal.

In December, the Cleveland Cavaliers signed Golden State Warriors restricted free agent Patrick McCaw to a two-year, $6 million offer sheet.

The Raptors, who waived Lorenzo Brown on Monday, will welcome McCaw as a depth piece. McCaw was expected to step into an expanded role in year three, but made a decision to hold out instead of agreeing to the Warriors two-year, $5.2 million offer during the offseason.

McCaw will sign a one-year, $786,000 veteran's minimum deal with Toronto, according to The Athletic. It was the end of a weird saga that involved a half-season holdout, an offer sheet, a surprising release, and an ongoing investigation by the National Basketball Association into how it all went down. He cleared waivers and became an unrestricted free agent. After passing on the Golden State Warriors' qualifying offer this summer, McCaw found it hard to find another offer.

The NBA is reportedly investigating the Cavs for signing and waiving McCaw, and could ultimately punish the team by taking away a first-round draft pick.

McCaw averaged 4.0 points, 1.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds per game on a stacked Warriors team last season before suffering a scary looking injury in March.

Patrick McCaw played just 18 minutes with the Cavaliers before being waived. The New York Times reports the league has granted the request and will perform a formal review of the transactions.

So at the end of the day, the only thing McCaw accomplished was escaping a team that has won three of the last four National Basketball Association championships.
