Chelsea conceded twice in the opening 16 minutes as Spurs inflicted Sarri's first competitive defeat, ending an 18-match unbeaten run.

"Pochettino has never won a trophy so it's massive for Spurs, far more important than it is for Chelsea".

Chelsea have announced the side and substitutes to go into battle with Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final tie this evening at Wembley. "I think he played really well in the last match".

"I am so, so pleased because the team is performing very well away from home, they're showing great character", said coach Mauricio Pochettino, whose team is third in the Premier League. They were destroyed so I realised that the match against Tottenham is very important for the club, the fans and the players as well. One thing Pochettino and Sarri have in common, however, is that their otherwise highly impressive managerial resumes are missing significant silverware - though speaking ahead of the semifinal first leg on Tuesday at Wembley, the Italian was keen to draw one important distinction from his opposite number. It was his second hat trick for Tottenham after also scoring three times against Rochdale last season in a FA Cup fifth-round replay.

Meanwhile the Blues have defeated Liverpool at Anfield, a tough Derby County side and AFC Bournemouth to reach the final four.

Sarri even compared the much-derided League Cup with the Champions League, given the calibre of opposition in Chelsea's way.

"I think that here in the first season it is really very hard for everybody - Pochettino, four years [without a trophy], for Klopp, four years [without winning anything]".
