Netflix warns against doing 'Bird Box' meme challenge

"Can't believe I have to say this", the Netflix US Twitter account wrote, sounding like a cranky parent.

Have a squiz at #BirdBoxChallenge on Twitter and see how seriously deluded some people are.

It has since inspired a unsafe internet trend that people are dubbing the #birdboxchallenge, which involves covering your eyes and attempting to complete daily tasks.

Netflix has a message for fans of it's hit new movie: Don't do the Bird Box Challenge!

Bird Box proved to be one of the most popular movies of 2018 and it was certainly one of the most talked about.

Bird Box is the latest film to spawn a meme-related challenge - and the Bird Box Challenge is, apparently, the latest social media craze to spawn injuries.

As if it wasn't risky enough to walk around blindfolded, some people added heavy artillery to the mix.

Judging from the Tweets, it doesn't actually seem like anyone has been seriously undertaking the challenge, so Netflix may actually end up doing more harm than good by calling attention it.

In the above video, a group was walking together around the streets of New York City blindfolded.

The characters in the film wear blindfolds to avoid laying eyes on the otherworldly entities that cause people to commit suicide.

Some people have even gone a full 24 hours blindfolded in an attempt to live a full day in the life of "Bird Box".

2019 just started, and it's a hot mess already.
