Netflix's Bird Box Reaches 45 Million Views in First Week

If in the latter you could not make any sounds, for fear of drawing monsters to your location, in Bird Box you're not allowed to open your eyes while you're out of your house.

Since its United States premiere on December 13 2018, social media has been flooded with reviews and memes about sci-fi thriller Bird Box, which left many people with dropped jaws.

On a special episode of Collider's horror podcast The Witching Hour, Haleigh Foutch and Perri Nemiroff offer their thoughts on Bird Box, from their favorite moments to the parts that strained credulity.

Shares of Netflix are up 33% YTD.

Netflix itself is stirring up controversy after claiming that 45 million accounts have already watched "Bird Box", giving it the best first seven days ever for a Netflix film. But where exactly do they appear? Plenty of folks share Netflix accounts, so some of those Bird Box viewings may be by more than one person at once.

A Netflix spokesperson shared with The Verge, that an account is considered a viewer "once a view surpasses 70 percent of total running time including credits".

It is worth wondering whether such statistics can influence the filmmaker's career, given that they can't be backed up.

The film has stirred up a lot of positive feedback with Chrissy Teigen applauding Sandra and director Susanne Bier for keeping her up at night over Christmas with odd dreams, and the actress is glad she signed on for a role, in which she's blindfolded for much of the action. "How does a traditional studio considering her for a project view it?" And while we can't show you, in an interview with, the cast describes the creatures perfectly.

Second, everyone loves to root for Bullock, who plays Malorie, a cynical pregnant woman who evolves into a fierce mother and must, among other things, navigate a turbulent river while blindfolded. Starring Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich, Bird Box has quite an interesting plot, one that rivals A Quiet Place from earlier this year.
