Pulitzer victor, Kendrick Lamar, on Friday, led the pack of nominated artistes in 2019 Grammy Awards. K. Dot picked up 8 nods, including Album Of The Year for Black Panther: The Album.

"This year clearly there were many women not only making music but making great music and making music that resonates with our peer voters in terms of excellence, and so that certainly is at the forefront".

This year, the Carters are up for three Grammys, but none of the big four categories (record of the year, album of the year, song of the year and best new artist).

Trailing Lamar in the nominations stakes are Drake with seven, and Carlile and producer Boi-1da with six apiece. Raising it to the level of both "Song of the Year" and "Record of the Year" - pitting it against fellow double-nominees like Childish Gambino's " This Is America" and Drake's "God's Plan" - feels like unnecessarily high praise.

The Recording Academy shared the full list on their website, Grammy.

- Best country album: "Unapologetically", Kelsea Ballerini; "Port Saint Joe", Brothers Osborne; "Girl Going Nowhere", Ashley McBryde; "Golden Hour", Kacey Musgraves; "From A Room: Volume 2", Chris Stapleton.

What Urban Meyer retirement means for Wolverines
He lost star defensive end Nick Bosa to an early season-ending injury, and the Buckeyes' defense never fully recovered. During a game against IN earlier this year, Meyer dropped to one knee on the sidelines due to the level of discomfort.

Lamar, the first rapper to win a Pulitzer Prize for music, Drake, Cardi B and Carlile also garnered nominations for record of the year.

Artists who were completely snubbed include Carrie Underwood, Sam Smith, Migos, Kane Brown, Nicki Minaj, XXXTentacion and Juice WRLD, whose "Lucid Dreams" was one of the year's biggest hits.

- Best pop solo performance: "Colors", Beck; "Havana (Live)", Camila Cabello; "God Is A Woman", Ariana Grande; "Joanne (Where Do You Think You're Goin'?)", Lady Gaga; "Better Now", Post Malone. He said women need to "step up" if they wanted more nominations in the top categories. Giving "Rockstar" a "Record of the Year" nomination makes ideal sense; it's a flawless song. Cardi's "I Like It" gained a Record of the Year nod. York University professor and previous Grammy-winner Rob Bowman is one of the compilation's producers.

For his smash self-titled LP, Shawn Mendes is in the running for best pop vocal album. The Compton rapper is having a really good week, as he also snagged a Golden Globe nomination for the original song "All The Stars" featuring SZA.

Jim (Kimo) West, who was born in Toronto and is known as Weird Al Yankovic's guitarist, is nominated for Moku Maluhia - Peaceful Island in the new age album category. The academy will hand out the awards during the annual ceremony set for for February 10.

Kendrick Lamar has won 12 Grammy Awards during his career.
