Trumps Visiting with Family of George HW Bush

President Donald Trump, who was not present for the hourlong tribute with the other leaders, arrived later with first lady Melania Trump to pay respects.

The two men also went head to head during the 1988 presidential campaign, dueling it out for the Republican nomination that Bush won on his way to the White House.

Trump's relations with the Republican establishment have been rocky since his insurgent campaign took him to the party's nomination and then a shock election win in 2016.

"There will be much more that I will want to say about President Bush's legacy in the days and weeks to come as we honor his memory".

Trump also did not attend the funeral in August of another Republican giant, former senator John McCain. On Wednesday, family and friends will gather at the National Cathedral in Washington for an 11 a.m ET memorial service.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Bush family during this hard time", said John Miller, President and CEO of America's VetDogs.

After the official ceremony, the public was allowed to pay its respects.

Sully showed up Tuesday at the U.S. Capitol, sitting in front of Bush's casket at the Capitol Rotunda, along with people who benefited from the ADA passage under our 41st President.

"I am saddened to learn of the passing of President George H.W. Bush. So we got quite a lot done".

The 95-year-old Dole, who uses a wheelchair, was helped to his feet by an aide and saluted the former commander in chief. There will be a motorcade that transports Bush to Washington National Cathedral for a state funeral.

Bush served two terms as vice president under Republican President Ronald Reagan before his own stint in the Oval Office from 1989 to 1993, a time that saw the end of the Cold War as well as the U.S. routing of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's army in the 1991 Gulf War.
