The holiday armadillo has granted your Christmas wish early: Friends is staying on Netflix! That means fans have only a few more weeks - until New Year's Eve at 11:59pm, to be precise - to binge-watch all 236 episodes of Friends before it's yanked from Netflix's catalogue of shows.

"Can't sleep so was trying to enjoy some Friends. then Netflix gives me the notification that friends is LEAVING NETFLIX ON JANUARY 1st".

Netflix first bowed all 10 seasons of "Friends", encompassing all 236 episodes of the show, to subscribers in the US and Canada in January 2015, under a deal with Warner Bros.

Later in the day Netflix US cleared the air assuring fans that Friends will still be available throughout 2019 and the expiration date was removed.

Canada sanctions 17 Saudis over Khashoggi murder
The Trump administration has made clear it does not want to torpedo the longstanding US relationship with Riyadh over the killing. Canada has imposed sanctions on 17 Saudi nationals allegedly linked to the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

However: An executive familiar with the show's contract told USA Today there aren't immediate plans for Netflix to drop the show. Despite the difference from the NYT report, the new deal is still a major increase from the original four-year deal the two companies signed in 2014, which kept Friends streaming on Netflix for $30 million per year.

Netflix users began noticing a troubling warning on the show page: "Available Until 01/01/2019". But given the growing competition in streaming-Apple is also getting into the game, and Netflix and Amazon are upping their content spending-it's curious that WarnerMedia doesn't want to differentiate itself more emphatically with TV shows and movies that can only be seen in one place.

Media analyst Rich Greenfield suggested as much in an analyst note back in October - specifically, that Friends might depart Netflix next year for the new streaming service that Warner Bros. parent company WarnerMedia is launching towards the end of 2019.
