Syria claimed the country's anti-missile systems "downed an Israeli military plane as well as four missiles..."

But on Friday Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it found the remnants of a Syrian anti-aircraft missile in an open field in the Golan Heights.

A day earlier, Syrian state media reported that the country's air defences shot down "hostile targets" flying over Kisweh and "were able to foil its goals" despite the "intensity of the aggression".

Israeli military forces were deployed to search the area for exploded or fallen ordnance.

"Reports regarding an IDF (Israel Defence Forces) aircraft or an airborne IDF target having been hit are false", it said in an English-language statement.

Another missile hit a military base, with no reported losses, the watchdog added.

Syria 'Shoots Down' Targets in Suspected Israeli Attack
Syrian air defence down several 'enemy targets' in southern Syria – reports

Israel has reportedly carried out airstrikes in Southern Syria targeting Iranian militias, in its first publicised strike since September.

Moscow pinned responsibility for the downing of its jet on Israel, saying its plane used the larger Russian one for cover, an allegation Israel disputed.

The side behind the attack is not yet clear, but Israel has repeatedly targeted military positions in Syria, including in Kisweh.

Israel and the USA have even put pressure on Russian Federation, another close ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the war against terrorist groups, to force Iran out of Syria.

The attacks came after Moscow supplied Damascus last month with an advanced S-300 air defense system, not yet believed to be in use, as Syrians still need to be trained on operating it.

Speaking after the talks, Russia's Syria negotiator Aleksandr Lavrentyev said the committee was of utmost importance.

There was no evidence that the S-300 batteries were used to intercept Thursday night's missiles.
