Since 1924, the Macy's Parade has enthralled the nation and become synonymous with the start of the holiday season.

The main hero of the Dragon Ball series, Goku, made his premier (in balloon form) at the 92nd Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The producers told Entertainment Weekly it was the parade's "first LGBTQ kiss". The parade coverage will air on both the CBS ad NBC network, showcasing the latest balloon floats and parade performers.

"We like to be able to debut the best of Broadway, but we also like to show those viewers what they want to see", she said.

Even with all the handlers, Goku briefly met his match when a strong gust of wind almost blew the giant balloon away early this morning. To wit: During this year's festivities, the cast of the new Broadway musical The Prom gifted the annual tradition with its first ever on-air same-sex kiss.

Police Commissioner James O'Neill said thousands of officers will be stationed along the parade route. They include counterterrorism teams with long guns, plainclothes officers mixed in with the crowd and a new squad of K-9 teams that can sniff out explosives from a few hundred feet away.

The parade runs 46 blocks from the west side of Central Park to Macy's flagship store in midtown Manhattan. Safety standards say the parade's 16 balloons, featuring larger-than-life versions of cartoon characters like Charlie Brown and the Grinch, can't fly if sustained winds are stronger than 23 miles per hour or gusts exceed 34 miles per hour.
