California officials said 59 people have died in the two major wildfires affecting Northern and Southern California.

The town of Paradise - which has a population of 27,000 - has been decimated by the inferno which has been fanned by strong winds.

As reported 5.UA the current fire that is raging on November 8, resulted in the largest number of victims in the history of California.

So far 65 people have been confirmed dead and in the last few hours the number of those missing has been revised upwards to 631.

"We have the management factor that I know Jerry has really been up on and very well, and Gavin is going to, we're going to be looking at that together", Trump said.

Authorities compiled the list by going back to listen to all the dispatch calls they received since the fire started, to make sure they didn't miss anyone.

President Donald Trump plans to travel to California on Saturday to visit victims of the wildfires burning at both ends of the state.

At the vast shelter parking lot, evacuees from California's deadliest fire wonder if they still have homes, if their neighbours are still alive - and where they will go when their place of refuge shuts down in a matter of days.

The disaster already ranks among the deadliest US wildfires since the turn of the last century.

The sheriff has asked relatives of the missing to submit DNA samples to hasten identification of the dead.
