The legal action comes as Nelson is headed toward a recount in his Senate race with Republican Gov. Rick Scott.

"Now the Scott campaign is reviewing the response to see if it complied with what the judge ordered", he added. And Republican Ron DeSantis led Democrat Andrew Gillum in the gubernatorial race by about 36,000 votes.

Scott, aided by other Republicans including President Trump, have accused the elections supervisors in Broward and Palm Beach counties of violating state law by withholding information about ballot counts as the Senate race remains too close to call. "Here we are, 72 hours from the end of voting, 5 days from the end of early voting, and we still have massive vote counts going on, apparently, in Palm Beach and Broward counties". Some counties are still counting votes, including the Democratic stronghold of Broward.

Scott, the challenger, has sued supervisors of elections in both Broward and Palm Beach counties, accusing them of mishandling the ballot count. Earlier Scott said he'd won.

Gretl Plessinger, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement spokesperson, told CNN that the department reached out to the Florida Department of State to offer their assistance with any investigation involving the collection and tabulation of votes in the 2018 election.

"Clearly, Rick Scott is trying to stop all the votes from being counted and he's impeding the democratic process." said Nelson in a recorded video statement. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has said they are not investigating, that no allegations of fraud have been brought forward and there has been no written request from Scott yet. "You can follow elections nearly in real-time when it's early in-person voting and absentee ballot voting, but for some reason in Broward County, that just doesn't seem to happen".

In Florida, an automatic recount will be triggered if the difference in vote totals between two candidates is 0.5 percent or less.

The woman said she declined the offer and, according to an affidavit, Beierle then slapped her on the buttocks and grabbed her. A FSU police report shows that Beierle told police he may accidentally bumped into someone, but denied grabbing anyone.

Mr Gillum's campaign said it was prepared for any outcome, including a recount. These same two Democratic-leaning counties proved problematic in providing voter returns in the 2000 presidential election when Republican George W. Bush narrowly defeated Democrat Al Gore in a historic recount.

"The lead is just over 15,000 votes now, which seemed to cause the governor to hold an impromptu news conference to acknowledge the shrinking state of the margin", Elias said.

DeSantis declined to discuss prospects for a recount, telling reporters he was "very proud to be elected". Kemp leads Abrams with 50.3% of the vote and has claimed victory, but Abrams, who would be the first female black governor in the United States, has yet to concede, saying that some votes have not yet been counted.

"If you look at Broward County, they have had a disgusting history", Trump added, referring to a Democrat-heavy county where officials were slowly counting votes including absentee and provisional ballots.

She said Thursday that mail-in and provisional ballots were being counted as quickly as possible but that her office had been slowed by their volume.

The threshold for a recount will be determined by the number of ballots reported by the canvassing board by noon Saturday. Elias replied to the lawsuit by tweeting, "Rick Scott just attacked me as a lawyer from Washington DC as he announced a lawsuit literally in the name of the national Republican Party located in Washington, D.C. Pro tip: when you are attacking the otherside's lawyers, you are losing".

State law requires the first unofficial vote count to be verified by Florida's secretary of state by Saturday. Secretary of State Ken Detzner, a Scott appointee, will review the results and decide whether to order recounts.

In yet a third statewide seat - the Cabinet position of agriculture commissioner - the candidates were separated by 483 votes out of more than 8 million cast - a margin of 0.006 percent.
