The AP also reported that "a man who looks like Beierle" appeared in a series of videos posted to YouTube in 2014, and that in the videos he called women who date black men "whores", spoke of an "invasion" from Central America and ranted about women.

Police know his name but aren't releasing any details yet about the shooter, he said.

"Maura truly lived a life really devoted to peace, love and caring for others", her father, Jeff Binkley, told CNN affiliate WSB.

However, it seems Beierle, who lived in Deltona, Florida, was known to authorities as he had "been the subject of prior calls for service in the Tallahassee area related to harassment of young women", local police said in a statement.

"Several people fought back and tried not only to save themselves, but other people, which is a testament to the courage of the people who don't just turn and run but the strength of our community and the spirit of those people trying to help and save and protect others", Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo said at a press conference Friday night.

The 2012 incident happened in a dining hall on Florida State's campus.

The shooting occurred Friday evening in an upscale shopping center.

Citing court records, the Tallahassee Democrat reported that Beierle had a history of arrests for grabbing women. The 2016 charges were dismissed after Beierle followed a deferred prosecution agreement, which grants a defendant amnesty in exchange for obeying certain requirements. The woman said she declined the offer and, according to an affidavit, Beierle then slapped her on the buttocks and grabbed her. A FSU police report shows that Beierle told police he may accidentally bumped into someone, but denied grabbing anyone.
