Mueller is investigating allegations that President Trump's campaign colluded with Russian Federation to meddle in the 2016 election.

The Hill Reporter website said the scheme surfaced after it and other news outlets were contacted by an anonymous woman saying she had been offered cash to make allegations against Mr Mueller.

The FBI is now investigating whether women have been offered money to publicly make false claims against Mr. Mueller.

The FBI declined to comment and referred reporters back to the statement the Office of the Special Counsel.

The FBI has been asked to investigate whether women were offered money to make sexual assault claims against Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating Russian interference in the United States presidential election.

Wohl is allegedly involved in an attempted plot to smear Robert Mueller - who is now investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 USA election- orchestrated by Republican lobbyist Jack Burkman.

This past Tuesday, Burkman posted a video to Facebook claiming that he would hold a press conference in two days with a woman who would make a "credible" accusation of sexual assault against Mueller.

Burkman is known for peddling right-wing conspiracy theories. The unidentified woman told journalists that a man with a British accent, who supposedly worked for Republican commentator Jack Burkman, offered her $20,000 and to have her credit card debt paid off if she would come forward with the allegations.

The woman, who isn't named by The Atlantic, claimed she worked as a paralegal at law firm Pillsbury, Madison, and Sutro in 1974, while Mueller worked there. The Atlantic reported last night that Mueller has referred the matter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The Atlantic says Parsons alleges that Surefire Intelligence had contacted her, offering to give her $20,000 "to make accusations of sexual misconduct and workplace harassment against Robert Mueller".

Wohl is now claiming his role as "founder" of Surefire Intelligence, which had become the subject of mockery after journalists discovered that the LinkedIn profiles of a number of individuals claiming to be firm employees had profile photos poached from models, actors and stock photo images.

Around that time, college professor Jennifer Taub, who was a frequent cable news guest where she spoke about the Mueller investigation, was approached by a person from SureFire Intelligence-a bogus "intelligence" firm made up by Wohl, with contact info that reaches his mom.

Wohl told the Daily Beast that GOP lawyer and lobbyist Jack Burkman told him he had hired Surefire to help investigate Mueller's past, but he didn't know anything about a plot to manufacture allegations. It came from Simon Frick of Surefire Intelligence.

"Mueller is a bad guy, not just because of what he does in the courtroom, but because of what he does outside of the courtroom", Burkman said. On Twitter, Wohl denied any attempt to discredit Mueller and said a smear campaign had been launched against him.
