Red Sox beat Dodgers to take stranglehold on World Series

The Red Sox will surprisingly turn to David Price for the start in a potential World Series-clinching Game 5.

The longest game in World Series history was bananas.

In the bottom of the sixth inning of Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday, Yasiel Puig came to bat against tiring Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez with the Dodgers leading by a run. He allowed one run on three hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Boston picked Game 2 victor David Price to start on short rest over Chris Sale against fellow lefty Clayton Kershaw. He had to take a loss, despite many Red Sox players speaking of him as a hero postgame.

The contest stretched to 18 innings, lasting seven hours and 20 minutes, before Muncy's hit earned a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox in game three.

This was more like Justin Verlander's motivational message to the Houston Astros when he popped up the stairs in the very same dugout during Game 2 last October.

The plan is to "piggyback" a not-quite-right Sale and a short-rest Price in Game 4 - i.e., go to Sale after getting an abbreviated start out of Price.

Dave Roberts admitted Saturday he and the Dodgers staff discussed using a reliever in front of Rich Hill in Game 4.

Dedicated supporters shouted "Let's go Dodgers!" and "Dodgers are coming back!" as they made their way home ahead of Game 4 that was only about 16 hours away. Part of the reason for this is the Red Sox are patient hitters and up their game when runners are in scoring position, while LA's bats see like they're constantly swinging for dingers. I just had the last out in my glove and couldn't get it over there.

The Dodgers were also closing in on victory at one point. Pitch count down. He pitched (in Game 3). "We've got our best going tomorrow and we're expecting to win a baseball game".

But they gave themselves a lovely chance to do that Sunday, after rallying from a 4-0 hole in the eighth inning to stagger the National League Champion Dodgers, 9-6. "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" was played twice, during the seventh-inning stretch and the 14th inning elongation.
