Loftus-Cheek, who made only his fourth appearances of the season in all competitions, was understandably buoyed following his match-winning display at Stamford Bridge and offered a more defiant view on his prospects at the club.

Sarri said after the game Loftus-Cheek has "adapted" to his football philosophy, having so far given the player just 33 Premier League minutes this season, but that the England global must improve defensively to earn a regular starting role.

There were rare starts for Emerson, Gary Cahill, Andreas Christensen and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but that did not hold Chelsea back, who went ahead within just two minutes. Three of them with the same characteristics. In the offensive phase wonderful. Only Kante is a defensive midfielder. Now I think the same, but now he's more suited to my football, he's improving. It's very hard for me to put in the starting XI two [such] offensive midfielders at the same time.

Sarri is delighted for the Spaniard, but has urged him to improve the defensive side of his game, which would complement his attacking output. Damn the tactics, mentality, work rate etc etc etc that I keep hearing - bottom line, the boy scores goals, we need goals.
