Real Madrid's Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui gestures during the Spanish league football match Real Madrid CF against Levante UD at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid on October 20, 2018.

Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui stressed the last thing he was thinking about was whether his job was under threat after his side were beaten 2-1 at home by Levante, their third successive defeat in all competitions.

Lopetegui added: "Football matches are won by scoring goals and not according to who deserves to win". Sooner or later, we're going to turn this situation around. The dressing room was sad but the players are keen to lift themselves up and look to the next game. "We're thrilled that he's recovered and ready to play again".

Meanwhile, Lopetegui went on to explain he was focused on his work as the manager of Real Madrid, which was now occupying the fourth spot in the La Liga standings, two points behind top placed Sevilla. They took advantage of four mistakes and at the start we tried to draw the game, at least.

Prior to the September recess, they had scored 12 goals in four competitive fixtures, but subsequently they have mustered only five in seven games, three of which came at once against Roma in Europe.

Lopetegui's under-fire side broke an unwanted club record - set back in 1985 - of 464 minutes without scoring and although Marcelo finally struck (71) to reduce the deficit, it proved in vain.

Outfielder Christian Yelich went off after the game, calling the play "dirty ". "I was trying to get over him and hit his foot". "I have a lot of respect for him as a player, but you can't respect someone who plays the game like that".

However, this poor run extends beyond the league, with defeat against CSKA Moscow leaving Group G precariously balanced. They have not waited that long for a win since that miserable run in May 2009.

Madrid's hard start to their season without former boss Zinedine Zidane and former talisman Cristiano Ronaldo continues.

But 13 goals this season is their worst tally after the opening nine La Liga games since 2004-05.

El Clasico away at Barcelona next week will surely decide Lopetegui's fate, if he even makes it that far after the fallout from this loss and a key UEFA Champions League match against Viktoria Plzen.

Valencia has only one win this season, 1-0 at Real Sociedad two rounds ago.
