Sancho made the bold decision to leave Manchester City for Germany past year, and the move has paid dividends with the forward having amassed six assists for his side in just 215 minutes of Bundesliga action. Despite this, the 18-year-old felt he had more chance of playing first team football elsewhere. Southgate has clearly been watching Sancho play for Dortmund and brought him into his squad for the games against Croatia and Spain.

Sancho politely declined to talk about leaving Pep Guardiola's City but was forthcoming when it came to life in Germany, expressing gratitude to the Dortmund fans and head coach Lucien Favre.

"That's the biggest thing that could ever happen to a young kid like me".

Speaking on The Debate, Rosenior believes Sancho's success has to act as an inspiration for more youngsters to experience the benefits of being taken out of their comfort zone. I'm just grateful [Southgate] has seen my progress in the Bundesliga. The former Manchester City prodigy has attracted a lot of attention with his excellent form this season and a move away from the Bundesliga could be on the horizon in the future.

"I was a bit surprised, to be fair", Sancho, the first player born this century to win a senior call-up for England, said.

Sancho could make his global debut when England face Croatia in the Nations League on Friday, or three days later against Spain. "That's what he said to me".

Despite interest from other English clubs, Sancho headed to Borussia Dortmund in 2017, and showed real promise last season before really excelling in the early stages of this term.

Maddison and Mount aren't yet playing at that level, but they too have shunned the glamour of the top six sides in the Premier League to ensure more minutes on the field. "I knew about Theo Walcott, who was 16 [when he was called into the 2006 World Cup squad]".

Despite mainly being used off the bench, Sancho is emerging to be a key figure in the Dortmund side.

"One hundred per cent, coming in before the World Cup, training for four days, it made me hungrier to get into the squad", he added.

Sancho said: "Obviously moving from home, that was the biggest".

"I could, yes", he replied when asked if the players could hear the supporters.

"So I'm going to say no, I'm going to say not at the moment".

Tottenham, in particular, are keen on signing the 18-year-old wunderkind, who is believed to be valued around £100 million.
