Flake vows to vote 'no' if Supreme Court nominee lied

Flake revealed Wednesday that a man called his office and complained that the senator would allow Dr. Christine Blasey Ford to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"On many occasions I heard Brett slur his words and saw him staggering from alcohol consumption, not all of which was beer".

Just as Republicans on the Judiciary Committee were about to favorably recommend the confirmation of Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court on Friday, Flake had a change of heart.

Some Democratic lawmakers claim the White House is keeping investigators from interviewing certain witnesses and have questioned how thorough an investigation that must be concluded by Friday can and will be. "And I can't say that I did, either", Flake told CBS News's Scott Pelley, adding later: "What I was seeing, experiencing, in an elevator and watching it in committee and just thinking, this is ripping our country apart".

Flake said the FBI investigation will lead to additional interviews and could reveal new information.

The majority leader had previously said Kavanaugh would be confirmed by October 1, but after four days of hearings into the nominee's background concluded, Democrats released an 11-hour bombshell that disrupted the process: An accusation that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted a woman, Christine Blasey Ford, while they were both in high school. Kavanaugh denies that as well.

Flake provided the decisive vote Friday to approve Kavanaugh's nomination in the Judiciary Committee and send the matter to the full Senate, but only after asking the panel to request an Federal Bureau of Investigation probe lasting up to seven days. She said, "I'm waiting to see what the results are". The stunning drama that unfolded last week - the highlights of which were Ford's gut-wrenching testimony of what she said happened to her 36 years ago and Kavanaugh's pained denial - has laid bare the hyperpartisan battle over what is supposed to be the least partisan branch of government.

Rouhani earlier said that as a precondition for any dialogue, Trump would need to fix the damage done by exiting the nuclear deal. He adds: "I want a plan that's solid, understood by both sides, really semi-agreed by both sides before we present".

"I hope that someone does run in the Republican primary, somebody to challenge the president", Flake said.

Republican Sen. Jeff Flake is stoking new speculation about a possible presidential run as he emerges as a central figure in the explosive debate over President Donald Trump's Supreme Court pick.

"S$3 oon enough the goal-posts will be on the move once again", McConnell said.

"I want them to do a very comprehensive investigation, whatever that means, according to the senators and the Republicans and the Republican majority", Mr. Trump said.

But in March, Flake told New Hampshire Republicans that someone needs to stop Trump in the 2020 presidential contest.

"I've been failing my tribe for some time now", he continued.

"Oh, yes. I would think so". I want it to be comprehensive.
