External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, in her address to the General Debate of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly here, said the world has received very unfortunate news about Indonesia which has been hit by a quake and a tsunami together.

But, within hours of acceptance of the talks, news came that terrorists had killed three of Indian jawans.

The Jammu and Kashmir dispute was the biggest hindrance to peace in the region, Qureshi said, adding that the issue would not be resolved until the United Nations resolutions were implemented properly. She asked whether this act indicate a desire for dialogue.

During her speech, Shushma stressed upon collective efforts by the United Nations members countries to tackle the issues like climate change and terrorism which she termed as the biggest challenges of the 21st century.

India also ripped through efforts of the "New Pakistan" to champion human rights. A statement from the Pakistan foreign office on Saturday said it had "highlighted the plight of the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir" - as Pakistan refers to the region of Kashmir under Indian administration.

She called for the early adoption of "one of the necessary measures in a long running war", the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism, which was proposed by India in 1996 and has been stalled because of United Nations members can't agree on a definition of terrorism.

Though the global community has become increasingly aware of Pakistan's role in promoting terrorism, the absence of an worldwide agreement on the definition of terrorism allows Pakistan to characterise terrorists as "freedom fighters", Ms. Swaraj said.

Swaraj said, "On the one hand, we want to fight terrorism; on the other, we can not define it". Gambhir also slammed Qureshi for his comment where he said that New Delhi cancelled the meeting of the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan on "flimsy ground". The country prints postage stamps glorifying terrorists.

Sushma said that Saeed has been given a long rope in Pakistan despite being a terrorist. "On the occasion, Swaraj completely ignored ongoing atrocities in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK)", Geo News said.

"Those who have exploited nature for their immediate needs can not abdicate their responsibilities".

On reforming the UN, Swaraj said the UN must accept that it needed to make "fundamental" and far reaching changes to the "head and heart" of the institution to "make both compatible to contemporary reality".

"It has become something of a habit with Pakistan to throw the dust of deceit and deception against India in order to provide some thin cover for its own guilt", Swaraj said, recalling last year's embarrassing episode for Pakistan when its Permanent Representative Maleeha Lodhi displayed a picture at the General Assembly of an injured Palestinian girl claiming she was a Kashmiri.
