Federal Bureau of Investigation reaches out to Boulder woman who accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct

He criticized Senate majority Leader Mitch McConnell for not agreeing to an FBI investigation of Kavanaugh, though in 1991, then-Sen.

"I asked him to swear before God he didn't do it and he did and I believe him", he said.

"Simply put, Ms. Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford", Mr. Walsh said. She has not accused Kavanaugh of raping her. Swetnik described Kavanaugh as a "mean drunk" in high school who was physically and verbally aggressive with girls.

Judge Kavanaugh says no way, no how, it wasn't me.

"Why would miss Ramirez be questioned, but not my client?" he asked. "One, the Supreme Court is the lone institution where most Americans still have some faith".

Returning from the hidden arm-twisting effort, Flake told the committee that he would vote to move the nomination to the full Senate but was asking Republican leaders to delay a full Senate vote until the FBI investigates -- with a one-week deadline - sexual harassment accusations made against Kavanaugh.

A committee spokesman on Saturday declined to elaborate beyond the statement.

Kavanaugh also testified before the committee on the same day after Ford.

Flake said during the interview that he plans to vote to confirm Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court during the full Senate vote unless something shows up from the FBI investigations.

On Thursday, Christine Blasey Ford, 51, during a televised public hearing before the committee recounted the alleged sexual assault by the conservative judge, which "drastically altered her life".

While Flake voted to recommend Kavanaugh's nomination, he also made the call for a limited investigation, throwing a proposed timetable that would have seen Kavanaugh confirmed Tuesday into turmoil.

"He frequently drank to excess", Lynne Brookes, one of Kavanaugh's former Yale classmates told The New York Times.

"They're going to be really working out word for word from that incident to determine whether there are other people who can corroborate her story".

Flake didn't give too many specifics on how he'd like the FBI investigation to be conducted, but did say he wants the agency to interview key witness Mark Judge, a move that Senate Republicans have (incredibly) resisted.

Judge has also denied Ford's allegations. "I have never done this to her or to anyone". While Keyser doesn't recall the party where the attack allegedly occurred, she did "not refute Dr. Ford's account, and". On Friday, Smyth said through his lawyer that he was "happy" to cooperate with the investigation.

A good agent, he said, "would address Kavanaugh's behavior and demeanor and credibility during his high school years".

Law enforcement officials began reaching out to potential witnesses as they look into allegations of sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh.

After Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) publicly announced his support for Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination this morning, the vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee appeared to be a foregone conclusion. Flake indicated he would take the next steps - leading to full Senate approval - only after the further background probe, and there were suggestions that other moderate Republicans might join his revolt. "As the Senate has requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in less than one week", Trump announced Friday.

Lawmakers and Trump administration officials had few expectations that the Federal Bureau of Investigation would settle Ford and Kavanaugh's dueling accounts. The agency can not force interviews in background check investigations, or in criminal investigations.

On Saturday, NBC News reported that the White House had constrained the FBI investigation by limiting its parameters.
