The entire United Nations just laughed in the middle of Trump's speech

Israel hardliners have welcomed a controversial speech to the United Nations by US President Donald Trump, where he told countries to back "patriotism" and reject globalisation.

"The United States stands ready to export our abundant affordable supply of oil, clean coal, and natural gas", Trump told the United Nations General Assembly.

"So true", Trump continued, which caused more laughter in the General Assembly hall. "The Daesh terrorists did not oppress people of the region with their acts alone", he said, adding that they also did vast harm to the image of Islam as a religion.

The next round of sanctions go into effect November 5, limiting Iran's crude oil exports.

It'll be Trump's first experience in leading a session of the U.N.'s most powerful body, where the US now holds the rotating presidency - a perch it is using to double down on its criticism of Iran.

"I would like to thank Chairman Kim for his courage and for the steps he has taken, though much work remains to be done". But, he said, US sanctions on North Korea "will stay in place until denuclearization occurs".

Mr Rouhani promised to respond to the USA tit-for-tat but claimed they did not want war.
