The Internet Has Strong Feelings About Sony's Newly-Announced PlayStation Classic

The Classic will be available December 3rd, to be exact, and will come with two classic PS1 controllers for that sweet local multiplayer action.

PlayStation One Classic is nearly half the size of Sony's original 1994 console, making it small enough to hold in one hand. The PlayStation Classic will cost $100, versus the $60 Nintendo has charged for its classic systems (and the NES Classic offered 30 games to Sony's 20).

Among the games will be Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Wild Arms and 15 other classic titles. Clearly Sony is trying to capitalise upon the nostalgic spirit that drives a lot of the gaming industry - and conveniently just in time for the holiday season.

The Classic will have its modern twists with a HDMI and USB cable, while the "Open" button located on the bottom right will operate a virtual disc which allows players to select from the 20 games stored.

The PlayStation Classic will surely be a success for Sony.

Following Nintendo's lead, Sony won't ship its retro console with an AC adapter. It's not yet known if we'll see regional differences with the game libraries as we did with other similar devices like the SNES Classic. After all, like the NES Classic, Sony's old console should also sell out, especially ahead of Christmas.

The SNES Classic is loaded with neat bonus features, including save states, display filters that evoke your classic CRT TV, and a handy rewind feature that lets you turn back the clock when you're struggling in a hard game.

"It changed everything", said games journalist Chella Ramanan about the original PlayStation.

The console is now available for pre-order in Japan, Europe, the USA, and United Kingdom ahead of its release December 3.

While the PlayStation Classic comes with two wired controllers, neither features DualShock support.
