That's where she says Kavanagh attacked her.

She said she was able to escape when Kavanaugh's friend, Mark Judge, jumped on top of them, sending all three tumbling.

Sunday's development threatens what would be a major win for Trump's White House and McConnell, as they seek to give a strong rightward tilt to the federal judiciary.

According to, "Kavanaugh physically pushed her into a bedroom, the accuser said". "Unfortunately what we're already hearing this morning is that the Republicans intend to play hard ball, they intend to grill her".

Other Democrats on the Judiciary Committee also called for the vote to be delayed, including Sen.

Obviously, a lot of questions raised here but this woman is now coming forward with some serious allegations.

Ford had contacted the Post through a tip line in early July after it had become clear that Kavanaugh was on Trump's shortlist to fill a vacancy but before the Republican president nominated him, the newspaper said. Watching is wife Ashley, with daughters Margaret, second from left, and Eliza.

The White House has accused Feinstein, who revealed the letter's existence late last week, of mounting an "11th hour attempt to delay his confirmation".

Feinstein issued a statement on Sunday afternoon in support of Ford and calling for the FBI to investigate the matter before the Senate advances Kavanaugh's nomination.

Nonetheless, many in Hollywood immediately presumed Kavanaugh's guilt and slammed him on social media.

She was then asked if the committee should vote this week on Kavanaugh given the turn of events. While his friend watched, the woman said, Kavanaugh pinned her down, grinding his body against hers and trying to pull off her one-piece bathing suit and the clothing she wore over it.

Ford told the Post that though some details are now hazy, she believes her encounter with Kavanaugh took place in 1982, when Ford was 15 and Kavanaugh was 17.

According to the Post, for weeks Ford declined to speak on the record "as she grappled with concerns about what going public would mean for her and her family - and what she said was her duty as a citizen to tell the story".

She told the Post: "Now I feel like my civic responsibility is outweighing my anguish and terror about retaliation".

In considering their options, Republicans largely settled on the view that Ms Ford's story alone was not enough to delay Mr Kavanaugh's confirmation. The notes also say four boys attacked her - but Ford insists this was the therapist's mistake.

Her husband, Russell Ford, said she spoke of being trapped in a room with two drunken boys. She told both how she was sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh back in high school, when they were both teenagers, saying he held her down at a party.

Ford is a registered Democrat. She tapped progressive Washington attorney Debra Katz, known for her work with #MeToo accusers, to represent her following her decision to go public.

Kavanaugh has denied an allegation of sexual misconduct dating to when he was in high school. If that happens, Senate Democrats could stop any Trump nominee to the high court for the rest of his term, leaving the Supreme Court with just eight justices and prone to deadlocks in crucial rulings.

She said she decided in late August not to come forward as she was concerned the publicity would upend her life while not affecting Kavanaugh's confirmation. Dianne Feinstein became public over the past week, she chose to go ahead and speak out herself, Sunday's report said.
