Ice Cube responds to Del Mar Fairgrounds shooting

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department said a man fired his gun near the race track at about 7pm and a deputy returned fire.

Rider Drayden Van Dyke, was thrown from his spooked steed during the gunfire.

Commentators could be heard screaming "there's gunfire at the track" as the race took the place. "There's gunfire at the track".

The San Diego Sheriff's department confirmed to Fox 5 that one person was injured in the shooting.

A man was shot outside an Ice Cube concert, and seconds after he went down you hear a fan ask, "Can I get a refund?" The man pulled out a silver plated semi-automatic handgun and fired several shots into a crowded area.

"An argument ensued and nearby deputies responded", she said.

The suspect was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and his condition is unknown at this time. No one else is believed to have been injured in the incident.

No other details were immediately available, and police are yet to release any information on the incident.

Police stand near barricades at Del Mar Racetrack where shots were fired ahead of an Ice Cube concert.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club said in a statement that under its special events protocol, substantial law enforcement and private security were on site during the event. "We will continue to fully cooperate with the Sherriff's Department in their investigation and will refer all questions concerning the incident to them", the statement continued.

Officers were seen racing to the popular venue.
