When it was pointed out that Klopp was not declaring himself one of the world's greatest managers and leaving himself open to such scrutiny, Mourinho launched into a further defence of his CV and cited last season's second-place finish with United as one of his greatest achievements.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be making a return to Old Trafford with the £88m recruit's new side as a result of Juventus being drawn in the same Champions League group as United, and Mourinho believes the Italian club's summer spending is a sign of their naked ambition.

Continuing to talk about Mourinho, the City manager said, "When we win we are good, when we don't we are not good, it's simple like that".

ESPN's Rob Dawson was at Old Trafford for the game and noted how Mourinho left his position to spend ten minutes sitting with fans gathered in the stadium's disabled section, making their night. "I knew that because finishing second last season was hard".

"Do you ask the same question to the manager that finished third in Premier League last season or the manager that finished fourth or fifth?"

"I said many times I don't judge", stated Guardiola.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he will not judge Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho for saying he deserves respect for winning three Premier League titles.

"A cup final they had a big dream to go to, a title they had a big dream to win, because they don't win many and of course".

They travel to Turf Moor tomorrow afternoon to face Burnley and another defeat could have serious repercussions for The Special One.

"I had great success last season".

He played three very good matches and it is not easy to play three very good matches when your team loses two of them... "So we have picked up experience from that", he added, saying the challenge of travelling to Europe and then preparing for Premier League football at the weekend was a tough one.

After surprising everyone in the early weeks of last season, Burnley have made an even slower start than United this time, with one point from three games.
