Indians acquire Josh Donaldson from Blue Jays

The American League's most-valuable-player in 2015 was reportedly traded on Friday night to the Cleveland Indians. He won an American League MVP award in 2015, was named an All-Star twice and won two Silver Slugger awards with the Blue Jays over four seasons. He could still be traded in September to help a team make the playoffs, however.

"He's great player, man", Encarnacion said after the Indians beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-0 and before the trade was official.

Donaldson's relationship with the Blue Jays' front office seems to have soured, which is likely rooted in not getting a big contract on his end or his extended recovery from injury this year on the club's end.

The Indians will come to Toronto for a four game series against the Blue Jays beginning September 6.

Coca-Cola to buy Costa Coffee for $5.1 billion
Coca-Cola is increasing its caffeine quotient with plans to acquire the Costa coffee chain of the United Kingdom for $5.1 billion. But it seems Coca-Cola swung in with an offer that was much more lucrative for Whitbread: the deal is worth £3.9 billion.

99.3% of demonetised currency returned to banks: RBI
Currency notes of higher value are easier to hoard, and can be used to proliferate black money. However, the supply of banknotes was lower than the previous year.

After a couple of fielding misplays and an error from the Rangers, Donaldson made arguably the most famous dash to home plate in Blue Jays history and used his heads-up base running to seal Toronto's berth in the 2016 ALCS. This was the Blue Jays last opportunity to get something - however minute that was - in exchange for Donaldson.

And, in true hockey/Canadian fashion, ball caps littered the Rogers Centre field after the Bringer Of Rain's "Hat Trick".

Donaldson is one of the best third basemen in the game when healthy, but the problem is, the 2015 MVP hasn't been able to play since May 28. In the end, the season has been a mess for the Blue Jays and unloading Donaldson for a meagre return only drives that point home even more.

After helping to lead the Oakland Athletics into the postseason the previous three seasons, Donaldson was shipped to Toronto for Brett Lawrie and three minor-leaguers - second baseman Franklin Barreto and pitchers Kendall Graveman and Sean Nolin. But the club made the gross miscalculation that it would be a contender this year and chose to roll the dice that the third baseman would return to form.
