Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho demanded "respect" from journalists and walked out of his news conference after the 3-0 Premier League home defeat by Tottenham.

He is at odds with executive vice chairman Ed Woodward, who fears Martial leaving and developing along similar lines to Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah, two other players Mourinho discarded.

The Manchester United manager has stayed in charge at a club for longer than three seasons only once - that was his first stint at Chelsea and even then he departed in September. "Respect!" a fiery Mourinho raged at reporters on exiting his post-match press conference.

"Today I had the proof the best judge are the supporters", Mourinho said.

"No, just to finish, do you know what was the result?"

United had beaten Spurs 1-0, 1-0, 1-0 and 3-0 in their last four league meetings at Old Trafford. You have to tell me what is the most important thing because I don't know. Respect! Respect! Respect, man!

Or was Mourinho just deflecting from the fact that he lacks any answer to the most obvious question facing him - how to sort out a defence that has leaked six goals in two games and was opened up easily by Spurs after the break?

We lost last season here against Sevilla and were booed because we deserved it, because we were not good.

Still, it's hard to escape the idea that this is the beginning of the end for Mourinho at United. Far from dealing with their dirty laundry in private, the manager has exposed the club's carcass for the rest of the world to feast off.

Mourinho: I would do the same losing 3-0, taking two hours from here to the centre of Manchester. Moura grabbed a second with six minutes left.

Mourinho, 55, has come under fire in recent weeks, not only for his team's mediocre start to the season - including a 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion on August 19 - but also for a number of reported fallouts with the club hierarchy and key players.

But what was so great about United's performance?

Spurs struck twice inside the first seven minutes of the second half as they maintained their 100 percent record. This (holding three fingers up).

Mourinho's future at Manchester United has been thrown into doubt in recent weeks.
