GOP Senator on Latest Trump Threat: 'Let's Hope Not'

President Trump is threatening to shut down the government if Congress doesn't allocate $25 billion for the border wall.

The latest twist comes days after the government said hundreds of children separated from parents at the border had still not been reunited with their families.

But Mr. Trump also told reporters that he'll "always leave room open for negotiation" with Congress, saying he has "no red line" to immigration proposals, but ultimately just wants "great border security".

The Judiciary committee has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday on the Trump administration's separation of thousands of migrant children from parents detained entering the US without authorization.

Sunday's shutdown threat from Trump also echoed a remark he made in February when he said "I'd love to see a shutdown" if the government did not agree to address immigration.

He also launched an aggressive push for additional border security measures early this year which include Dollars 25 billion toward construction of a wall along the US-Mexico border.

The president's renewed call for border wall funding, immigration reform and strict enforcement measures came as Democrats appeared to be looking for a different campaign centerpiece than their recent calls for abolishing the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

Democrats and some Republicans have objected to some of the changes Trump seeks. President Trump also wants changes to legal immigration, including scrapping a visa lottery program. "Obviously, if I knew that I never would have said he was a reputable lawyer, I'd have said he was a scoundrel".

"If we don't get border security".

Imran Khan and his three wives
Before official results arrived, PTI and Khan supporters took to the streets to celebrate the initial results on Wednesday night. But he was dogged by the accusations he was benefiting from a "silent coup" by the generals which targeted the PML-N.

Matt Gaetz: Impeach Rod Rosenstein
Minutes later, House Republicans voted to sanction the Department of Justice over GOP document requests. Mark Meadows of North Carolina, chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus , and Rep.

Trump said the two countries, through a "new strategic dialogue", would continue to boost joint security efforts in the Mediterranean and North Africa and would focus on "the urgent need to protect our nations from terrorism and uncontrolled migration".

"But this has been many years", Trump said.

McConnell said Friday that talks over funding the wall would "probably" have to wait until after the midterms.

Funding for a border wall would be a major sticking point in spending bills due by September 30 to keep the government open. This has led Trump to demand that USA taxpayers fund construction of the wall, claiming he would recoup the money from Mexico through other means. The Senate remains in session and is set to take a one-week break the week of August 6, then returning for the rest of the month.

The House in June rejected an immigration bill favored by conservative Republicans.

He wants lawmakers to approve $25bn (£19bn) to fund the construction of a "big, lovely wall" on the US-Mexico border, a signature promise of his election campaign.

If Trump waits until after the election to fight for the wall, he is essentially disarming himself by inviting the Democrats to take the majority in the House and use that leverage to prevent Trump from advancing his agenda. But they have the strength to derail legislation in the closely divided Senate.

The $5 billion is well above the $1.6 billion in the Senate version of a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security. Congress must act on fixing the DUMBEST & WORST immigration laws anywhere in the world!
