Mesut Ozil recently announced his decision to retire from global football after he received strong criticism from the Germany football federation after he was pictured with the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

"It is with a heavy heart and after much consideration that because of recent events, I will no longer be playing for Germany at global level whilst I have this feeling of racism and disrespect", he said.

"Everybody at the club is thinking like me to help him and to feel (good) here and express his quality with us".

"Mesut has the respect of every player here", said Emery, who was appointed as Arsene Wenger's successor in May.

The Turkish Football Federation also issued a statement, saying it "offers its full support" to Ozil and his family.

Ozil made a decision to cut short his holiday to join up with his Arsenal team-mates in Singapore for pre-season and the former Real Madrid star is ready to put a turbulent summer behind him.

Many politicians and journalists in Germany questioned Ozil's loyalty to his country after photographs emerged of Ozil, a third generation immigrant with a Turkish heritage, posing alongside Erdogan.

Ozil declined to comment on Wednesday as he took part in a training session at a private school in Singapore ahead of Thursday´s friendly against Atletico Madrid. He feels here with us that he can work every day, and it is good for us that he chose to come here and work with us before our two matches'.

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech also said the players were keen to support Ozil, who smashed the club´s transfer record when he moved from Real Madrid in 2013.

Asked whether Ozil was mentally prepared for the season, Spaniard Emery said: "I am sure he is going to have a big season with us". As a team that's all we can do.
