Trump walked back his comments on Russian Federation the day after his appearance with Putin, though he later cast doubt on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 race.

President Trump was gung-ho last week about a second summit with Vladimir Putin after their sitdown in Helsinki - but the Kremlin on Tuesday offered only a decidedly lukewarm response to the invite.

Trump said at a joint press conference with Putin that he did not see any reason why Russian Federation would interfere in the 2016 presidential election, contradicting the conclusions of USA intelligence agencies. By way of comparison, in the Post-Schar School survey, 87 percent of Republicans said they approved of Trump's overall job performance as president. We must put aside the GOP label, as hard as that may be, and demonstrate the leadership our country needs by calling on the president to step down.

The Russian Ministry of Defense slammed US Gen. Joseph Votel Tuesday, accusing America's top military commander in the Middle East of discrediting President Donald Trump's position after Votel expressed hesitancy about working with Russia in Syria.

Trump's ratings for handling the summit represent a weakened moment for him, but they are not markedly worse than ratings of his presidency overall in other recent polls.

Mr Trump tweeted on Tuesday: "I'm very concerned that Russian Federation will be fighting very hard to have an impact on the upcoming Election". Despite a slight increase, Trump's approval rating is still only 45 percent, among the lowest of any recent US president at this point in his first term.

At a joint press conference in Helsinki, Putin laughed at the accusation the Russian government had gathered material with which to blackmail Trump.

Even with control now, Republicans have had difficulty approving Trump's legislative agenda and likely would have even more trouble should Democrats take over one or both houses.

The intelligence community has concluded that Russian Federation used a campaign of propaganda and hacking to interfere in the 2016 presidential election to aid Trump's candidacy, and has warned that Moscow is working to meddle in the November congressional elections.

Later, a reporter asked McConnell, "What's your view on the merits of the White House to President Vladimir Putin to come to the United States in the fall for a visit?"

But U.S. defense officials are aghast at the prospect of coordinating with Russian Federation in Syria, where Russian Federation and the U.S. are conducting two separate military campaigns. And overall, 37 percent of USA adults think Russia's meddling transformed the 2016 election results.
