Other than that, we've only seen her appear in the 2017 Christmas special, when the previous Doctor (played by Peter Capaldi) regenerated into his new form (Whittaker). The curiosity about how Jodie Whittaker would take on the role was nearly felt in the room-even after a brief trailer for the new season played, many questions were still hanging in space.

This move was made with viewers in mind, with Chibnall and co. hoping to make Doctor Who season 11 as enjoyable as possible - for both long-time fans and people who have just gotten into it alike.

While Chibnall confirmed that the 13th Doctor is still the Doctor, she will be spearheading a new kind of Doctor Who series.

"You don't write the Doctor any differently because she's a woman", Chibnall said. "I have never approached a role thinking of it 'how would a woman play this?' because I am one".

The BBC has yet to set an exact premiere date for Doctor Who season 11 just yet, but it's coming our way this fall.

Sadly, one of those old things not likely to show up this upcoming season is Daleks.

Firstly, the new series will be the first to feature a female Doctor.

She added: "No-one is going to suggest the role [Doctor Who] is paid less because you're a woman, and they didn't".

Tossin Cole and Mandip Gill, who play the Doctor's new companions, Ryan Sinclair and Yasmin Khan respectively, also shared this sentiment.

Even the Doctor's costume was designed with inclusivity in mind. As he said (and we all agree), "It was a no brainer", and it fit with canon: former showrunner Russel T. Davies apparently sent Chibnall a text noting a reference to changing genders during regeneration from the show's '70s incarnation.

Kirkman said Lincoln's decision to leave was personal and that he supported it; "This is somebody that I've known for nearly a decade, somebody that I love", Kirkman said.

"She's whisked on an adventure with people who become her famlly". Ryan gets "caught in a insane situation" when he accompanies the Doctor, whom he "challenges".

Talking at the panel, incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall explained the approach for his version of the series. Mainly, that the darker, more brooding elements of modern Doctor Who - the kind that have painted the Doctor as a frightening, all-powerful legend - are about to give way to something more grounded and fun.
