Lakers sign Rajon Rondo to one-year deal for $9 million

The status of Julius Randle, who is a restricted free agent, appears in doubt. That announcement was quickly followed by agreements by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee to play for the Lakers, sources told ESPN's Chris Haynes. Randle was previously informed that if he returned to the Lakers, his role would be "dramatically different" than it was last season, per ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

Ball reportedly suffered torn meniscus in his left knee near the end of last season, but he is expected to be sound when training camp begins in September.

The point guard is the latest player to join forces with James.

A person with knowledge of the situation says Rondo has agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers added Rondo's quick hands and length, Stephenson's aggressive defense, McGee's length and shot-blocking ability and brought back one of their best defenders from past year in Caldwell-Pope.
