Trae Young gets immediate pressure in Atlanta after Luka Doncic trade

Slovenian sensation Luka Doncic didn't have to wait long to find out where his new home would be, as the Atlanta Hawks selected the worldwide star with the 3rd overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. What they were not expected to do was trade him to the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas has been in dire need of guard depth with no true floor general outside of Dennis Smith Jr, the teams 1st round draft pick previous year. While it remains to be seen what level of production he'll bring, Doncic is a solid mid- to late-round draft addition if you're willing to take the risk.

Doncic became one of the top prospects in the draft while dazzling in Europe, winning Euroleague MVP and a Euroleague title along with a Spanish League championship. Doncic was slated to be traded to the Dallas Mavericks as long as Trae Young was still up for grabs at #5.

His lengthy European season kept him from working out for teams but he knew the Mavericks were interested in having him on their team for what's expected to be Dirk Nowitzki's final National Basketball Association season. The Hawks either love or are completely out on Luka Doncic or Jaren Jackson Jr., depending on the day and the report.

While many recently drafted rookies will soon participate in NBA Summer League, don't expect the No. 3 overall pick to be on the court. The Hawks did okay in this draft, but for where they got these guys, I am not a fan.

The Mavericks will send a future first round pick (top-5 protected), along with the No. 5 pick to the Hawks.

The Suns made the 7-foot-1 Ayton the first No. 1 pick in franchise history. Young hit 27.4 points and 8.7 assists per game on 42.2 percent from the field and 36 percent from 3.

"I have a lot of ex-NBA players on my team and I play against a lot of ex-NBA players", he said. Andrea Bargnani went No. 1 overall in 2006; the last top-five to come from an global roster was Dragan Bender, who went No. 4 to Phoenix in 2016.

The Mavericks are coming off consecutive losing seasons for the first time in almost 20 years, back when Nowitzki ended up being the centerpiece of a rebuilding project that led to 12 straight trips to the playoffs and the franchise's only championship in 2011. They then follow that pick up by selecting another guard in Jerome Robinson. As a basketball player, this will be the easiest thing you've ever done.
