Salah is expected to play for Egypt in their final group game against Saudi Arabia on Monday but his long-term future with the national team is uncertain.

A source with knowledge of Salah's position on the matter has confirmed this to be correct to ESPN FC, adding that the player is now considering his global future.

The CNN report states that: "Salah feels exposed by what has happened in Chechnya".

"Salah was granted honorary Chechen citizenship by Kadyrov at a banquet held to say goodbye to the squad on Friday night".

The Egyptian football team have been based in Grozny, the Russian republic's capital, during the World Cup, despite it being a long distance from their matches.

Given his stellar club season and central role in Egypt's qualification campaign, Mohamed Salah deserved the World Cup stage more than most.

The World Cup is all about watching the best of the best.

Salah went to war with the Egyptian FA when they used his image rights without his permission, and put him at risk of a massive financial loss.

After scoring 44 goals for the Reds last season, the Egyptian was a player many were very excited about seeing in action in Russian Federation but a serious shoulder injury suffered in the first half of the Champions League final caused him to miss the opening game of the World Cup.

But his worldwide future will now be under consideration as a result of the events in Chechnya during the tournament.
