United States President Donald Trump came to the rescue of First Lady Melania Trump who is being criticised for wearing a jacket featuring an insensitive message on its back. "Do U?" in white lettering that looks like broad paint strokes. "It's my honest hope Congress will be able to reach across the aisle & find a solution!" the first lady captioned a video of her unannounced visit to McAllen, Texas. Later, she was pictured again, wearing it upon her arrival back at Andrews Air Force Base, CNN reported.

In addition, Melania wore the controversial coat when she exited her military flight home from Texas and into the White House where 12-year-old son Barron was awaiting her return.

Whatever Mrs. Trump may or may not have intended-her spokeswoman declared "it's a jacket" with "no hidden message"-the outerwear's doctored image not only spread rapidly among those looking to sound off, but to raise money benefiting children like those the first lady visited".

"I think seeing what the first lady wore on her visit today totally appalled and shocked me and was just beyond tone deaf", Teodoro told HuffPost.

In a Thursday afternoon tweet, the president agreed that there was a message, and said it was aimed at one of Trump's favorite targets, the "fake news media".

The awkwardness of the situation wasn't lost on many online, including Dictionary.com, who said it showed indifference.

It's not clear whether this jacket is a nod to those concerned that she is being too soft on immigration, or was simply a major wardrobe malfunction.

The first lady met with the facility's executive director, a case manager, a medical care coordinator and others as she began a tour of the facility.

In the immediate aftermath of Trump's order, Kenneth Wolfe, a spokesperson for the Administration for Children and Families within HHS, told the New York Times that "there will not be a grandfathering of existing cases", suggesting that families who are already separated would not immediately be reunited. That might very well be true, but does she need a jacket to get that point across?

The visit came the morning after President Donald Trump signed an executive order halting the practice of separating families that entered the USA illegally.

Visiting another classroom, Melania asked children where they were from and how long they'd been at the centre where staff said children typically spend between 42 and 45 days. "Do U?" on her trip to visit a shelter for illegal child migrants in Texas.

This visit was an attempt to lend support to those caring for the immigrant children, although Trump did not make a public statement about the plight of separated families until this past Sunday.

Since Trump's executive order, Democrats have argued his search for a way out of one humanitarian crisis merely created another. The first lady signed it as well.
