White House says Trump, Kim to meet at 9am on June 12

The upcoming Kim-Trump meeting was called off by the U.S. President late May before being put back on last week after a top North Korean official delivered Trump a letter from Kim Jong-un.

Syria and North Korea have been accused of co-operating on chemical weapons, but both deny the accusations.

The former NY mayor, now Trump's legal adviser, said there was no choice but to cancel the summit after Kim Jong Un insulted the vice president and threatened nuclear war.

U.S. and North Korean delegations met at the hotel four times last week to prepare for the summit.

Asked to comment on speculation that Mr Putin might meet Mr Kim at a regional security summit in China this weekend, the Russian President's foreign affairs adviser, Yuri Ushakov, said no such meeting was planned.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced the venue of the highly anticipated summit on Twitter Tuesday, adding that "We thank our great Singaporean hosts for their hospitality".

North Korean officials are "sensitive to being dictated to", one source close to the talks said, and the Hagin-led team has taken pains to present ideas for the summit in a collaborative way.

"I don't think one meeting next week in Singapore can certainly unlock the entire situation on the Korean peninsula", he said. "It is going to be a process".

The main U.S. goal is to get North Korea to agree to denuclearization.

Donald Trump said he didn't want to use the term "maximum pressure" any more, because the two sides were 'getting along'.

Trump said in March that the two leaders would meet soon, but since then already poor ties between Washington and Moscow have deteriorated further over the conflict in Syria and the poisoning of a former Russian spy in Britain.
