Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin have meet prior to the official opening of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Qingdao to sign a series of bilateral agreements, while overseeing a number of further agreements signed between representatives of both the private and public sectors from the neighbouring superpowers.

Russian Federation was pushed out of the then G8 due to its annexation of Ukraine's Crimea four years ago.

Putin also welcomed Trump's call to bring Moscow back into the G-7 group of leading industrialised nations.

"No matter what fluctuations there are in the global situation, China and Russian Federation have always firmly taken the development of relations as a priority", Xi said at the start of talks Friday with Putin, Reuters reported.
